Law Enforcement Organizational Protection

The Law Enforcement Organization Protection Intelligence Report provides intelligence regarding threats to the safety of the officers, other law enforcement staff, their family members, and law enforcement assets involved directly and indirectly in an operation or investigation. To be effective, this type of intelligence relies on s pecific direction from the mission manager in identifying the mission's concept of operation, goals, and objectives. Once the mission is specified, activities designed to protect law enforcement personnel, their families, and law enforcement assets are developed for use by the law enforcement community during the operation/investigation.

As the following figure illustrates, the Law Enforcement Organization Protection Intelligence Report is first generated in the early planning phases of a mission, providing input for the “Determine Threat” phase of the mission. It continues throughout the operation/investigation to the trial and asset seizure phase, if required. As it relates to day-to-day law enforcement operations, law enforcement organizational protection is an ongoing process that is constantly being adjusted to meet the real and perceived threats to law enforcement presented by the criminal element.
