General Intelligence

General intelligence reporting provides intelligence that is very broad, giving the consumer an overview on a subject area. A small amount of intelligence is furnished on any number of subjects and subject areas, providing a broad brush as to what is going on in the world of the criminal. General intelligence can, and usually does, cover one or more of the mission-specific intelligence functions.

The General Intelligence Report briefly exposes the consumer to a great number of criminal activity events. The intelligence consumer, if interested, can then seek more in-depth intelligence, if available. The report may also be issued to seek materials regarding a specific subject. In other cases, the report will be generated to present an intelligence issue to determine if there is any interest for additional intelligence research on that subject. The following figure summarizes the applications for the General Intelligence Report.

A General Intelligence Report is usually provided in three levels, as follows:

  • Advisement — A two to three sentence recap of the intelligence report
  • Synopsis — A two to three short paragraph review of the intelligence report
  • Full report — The complete report, which can range from two pages on up
