Intelligence relationships to law enforcement operations and investigations

The following figure depicts the seven mission phases and their relationship to operational and intelligence functions. The functions are a generic set of mission planning and execution steps used in most law enforcement operations and investigations.

Planning methods vary from agency to agency. In certain agencies, some of the functional steps can be deleted, due to the agency's mission or the nature of the specific operation or investigation.
